Happy 4th of July from the City of Country Club Hills Police Department! We want everyone to have a fun and safe holiday! To help achieve this, we have a few reminders to our residents and guests. Please remember that in the State of Illinois it is currently illegal to possess or use any fireworks (Illinois Fireworks Use Act, 425 ILCS 35/2). The City of Country Club Hills also has an ordinance (7.2.16 Fireworks) which in summary advises it is unlawful to possess, exhibit, shoot, explode or use any fireworks within the City of Country Club Hills. It is also noted that no sparklers can be used or sold on public property as well. Please note any violation could result in the seizure of fireworks and citations issued.
With this in mind, please remember these laws are in place for SAFETY of you, your family and your friends. Fireworks are explosives and sparklers can burn upwards of 1,800 degrees, hot enough to warp or melt steel. As a comparison, a match burns at around 325 degrees. In 2017 the Illinois Fire Prevention Division reported over 204 injuries and 1 death associated with fireworks.
We want all of our residents to be as informed as possible. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Police Department (Non-Emergency 708-798-3191 x2). We wish you all a happy and safe holiday!
